"Caring after prison"
Blessings from the Aglow prison ministry in Iowa! We continue to go boldly into the prison system in Iowa to share the good news of Jesus Christ to those held captive! A team goes into Mitchellville on the first and fifth Sunday of every month sharing for an hour and a half in praise and worship and messages. Sometimes, we do a drama presentation, art, and special music. This year for Christmas, volunteers and friends of Aglow gathered items for gift bags so that every inmate will receive a special gift bag for Christmas. For most of the inmates, this will be their only Christmas present. Items included Chap Stick or lip gloss, microwave popcorn, hair ties, a card with a stamp that they can mail to their family, and a canned food item that they could cook in the microwave if they don't care for the supper being served or would like a special treat some time. They also received trial sized shampoo or lotions as well.
Mt. Pleasant has three teams that rotate in every 3rd and 4th Sunday and Kerry Hadley, the field assistant to the East Iowa Area Team for the prison ministry, goes in every Wednesday evening for a 2 hour bible study and time of praise and worship. This is very well attended and God is doing some great things! Women are being set free and understanding who they are in Christ. We have also had three water baptismal services at Mt. Pleasant, baptizing 26 women to date.
The volunteers of Mt. Pleasant were invited to the "Holiday Meal" for Christmas this year. This is a special honor as the invitations are usually reserved for the Mayor, Governor, and City Council of Mt. Pleasant and other dignitaries. The staff of Mt. Pleasant felt that because Aglow has done such 'life changing' work , that we, too should be honored this year with a meal.
We are excited and humbled to attend!
